Three sets of mothers have simultaneous phone conversations reflecting their hopes for the Christmas holiday. As they speak, they are interrupted by their teenage sons, creating two conversations at once. Further, though isolated from each other, the three scenes interweave to reveal just how each family's experience may be dulled by materialism or blessed by the lack of it. This is a very theatrical piece.
